Wendy Thompson Taiwo



Wendy Thompson Taiwo was born in 1981 and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area.  She received her Ph.D. from the University of Maryland in 2009, and that same year, embarked on a research trip to China that would change her life and her career.  The research trip evolved into an ethnographic documentary project focused on Nigerian men and women making a living in the informal economy between China and Nigeria titled *Guangzhou/Lagos*.  She is currently an Andrew W. Mellon Fellow at Bowdoin College and is writing a memoir about growing up African American and Chinese as well as working on a children’s book that explores her daughter’s multiethnic heritage through the use of Yoruba language and photography.
